KELLY & GREG
Royal Lahaina Resort Wedding
Kelly and Greg's wedding weekend at the Royal Lahaina Resort was certainly one to remember. Meeting the Ohana was a lot of fun, and we got the opportunity to get to do a lot of in-person visits as Nedra (Kelly's mom) lived in Oahu. Site visits, tastings, and vendor meetings gave us a lot of time to create their five-day celebration for all their guests. I really love doing multiple day events; as a destination wedding, it's the perfect combination of including guests and everyone getting to know each other.
Welcome party, Luau, Beach Party, Paniolo Night, Movie Night, and wedding day has never been so much fun for all 175 guests staying at the hotel or surrounding areas. Nedra even planned golf, tennis, yoga, and paddleboarding signup every day. Every detail, including box lunches and Ululani's Shaved Ice!
One of the things I've learned from this was that no matter how much you plan and organize you will always have a backup plan to the backup plan. We were thrilled with the challenges we set for ourselves especially with the design elements of a different location every day. One of the biggest design elements was the big reveal on the wedding day. We specifically did not use the beautiful oceanfront lawn for any of the big activities so we would have a couple of days to prepare the lawn. Everything we've designed for the day was not done before so it made for some exciting collaboration. Such as doing a diamond grid design of twinkle lights above the entire lawn using black strands was to ensure that during the evening when the lines were visible that it was not green and by setting the strings in black it helped to bring in a subtle effect to mimic the stars in the sky but also added a 3D effect when looking up at night. There were many other designs that included new dropped lighting over the dance floor and bar to match, hanging 20ft orchid strands, black strand twinkle lights, and glass orbs from the beautiful eighty-foot tree in which we named the "Tree of Life" from the movie Avatar in which we designed as the backdrop for the stage and the focal point of the lawn. My personal favorite was the two 8ft pineapples made out of white carnations and large white anthuriums that we placed at the entry of the reception entrance.
Every event was unique with each having its own design elements in which we wanted to create a memorable theme.
